Last week I asked how to remove axle seal and was given some great advice as to how to remove the axle, have it out now but the problem is there is no inner seal on mine. Is this correct or was it repaired wrong previously? The original owner gave me all his repair invoices from the last 12 years and one did show an axle seal repair was done[didn't show which side]. Any advice?

I thought there were only outer axles seals on D44's?... Cause an inner axle seal would prevent oil from getting to the axle bearings....

same as a D35...

Creekscout, Both D35 &D44 should have inner axle seal. If you look in axle tube, there will be a machined surface, like a "step" that the inner seal will stop @/or rest on. It's true some folks left them out, but the bearing was to be packed w/brg. grease & seals lightly lubed b4 install. Check axle shaft & you will see machined surface that is long enough to reach inner seal.

I doubt he's talking front. If you don't install the seals in them ALL the gear oil you put in will wind up on the ground.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure the rear have inner seals. Been a while since I looked.

I've had a ton of D35's and newer D44's apart, and have never seen an inner seal on one. What year axle are you talkin' here?
