Getting A Comanche... The Dilemma

So i've been in love with the '91-'01 cherokees for so long but have always loved pickup trucks and recently when watching breaking bad i saw this pickup truck i never saw and it reminded me of the cherokee so i was like woah i need to find out what this truck is so finally after about 20 more minute of breaking bad and 10-15 of google search i found the comanche and still not too long after found this website and have been on it everyday in my free time staying up late looking at everyone's mj's and reading about all of them and I'm in love but no my dilemma is i live in illinois where i have only found 2 one and hour away in indiana which would be a great choice and another an hour in the t eother direction from me that needs alot of work but is really cheap but i finally started working again after being unemployed for a while after leaving the military and still since the begining of december i have not one dime to my name been working for almost 2 weeks and still have no paycheck and with both of these trucks more than likely to be gone soon i fear i may not ever get one.. I guess what I'm asking is does anyone have a comanche they may want to sell maybe middle of spring or ending of it? I live in illinois near chicago so it would have to be somewhat local but no more than a 5 hour drive. And if no one does want to part with their beatiful trucks does anyone know any places that would have a decent amount in stock year round? I may not fully understand the rarity of this truck.. Just any insight really would be appreciatte it! Thanks everyone!

Welcome to the club, er cult I think we actually decided awhile back.

You're basically posting a wanted ad, so toss one up in the classifieds wanted section. Try to list specifics like engine, tranny, swb/lwb, stuff like that. I would have thought you'd find more then only two around that area, I got my old '91 from up that way. Get an ad up and I'm sure you'll find one easy enough.

I would say you should come buy mine, two for the price of one. I'm right at the 5hr one way mark from Chicago though, so possibly even longer for you.

Best of luck.

Welcome to the Comanche Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Support Group. You may have already distinguished yourself by qualifying for the longest sentence award competition. But, that's the way it is with these trucks - you get hooked and can't quit thinking/talking/googling about them. I bought a 88 Pioneer 2WD about 2 years back and a 91 Eliminator 4WD about 8 months back. 88 is still in process - work is really cramping my MJ style. I'd retire and work on/play with them continuously if I didn't also have this food and shelter addiction.

I hope it worked because i broke my brain in the process.

Bro you will find one in the spring. They are out there. Sure you may have to travel a bit to get one so save your dough. I'm an Ironworker in Chicago and got lucky finding one in Lowell, In.  Funny, it happened to be my work partners at the time!! Lot of knowledge on this site,so don't be afraid to do some research and ask questions. Good luck on your search and welcome to the club. I'll keep my eyes peeled out for one. I'm about an hour from ya.

But thanks 13 legion maybe if i ever get my mj i can hit you up for some help with it in return for a few parts. I love how so many of you guys did that swap of the front ends with the cherokees and i want to do that with mine but I'm still confused with what else you guys swap with it? I know the front exterior and i remember seeing one guy putting cruise control on his, which sounds amazing, but what else? Well anyways ill be popping in and out of here periodically seeing how this is set as my home screen!

Well there was a plan then it all fell apart. My parents, whom i still live with -.-, were supposed to buy my truck from me. Its a 2007 mitsubishi endeavor that spent its entire life in florida and this was its first winter. Needless to say it sucks but i only had 2 grand left to pay on it and it would be put in my name. (it was my grandma's i took over payments) but anyways they were going to finish the payments and give me 5 grand for it because their car was getting repoed and my dad wanted my mom to have the endeavor but her being the queen she is decided she doesnt want it because it makes her look poor and she wants a mercedes or something so now there is this whole ordeal with the family... Didnt mean to include you guys in on it just my update.

  • 2 weeks later...

Welcome to the addiction. I am a little south of you in Indiana around the lafayette area. There are not a lot of comanches in the area if you search craigslist, but i think you will be surprised at what you can find and it is not that long of a drive for you. probably 2 hours id say. A lot of what i have found has a 2.5 in it and the bodies are in alright shape. a little TLC would go a long way. I hope this helps you. Good luck!!!
