Speedometer Cable

Got my new cable a while back, wanting to install it and I was wondering if all mjs/xjs have this or is it just for cruise control? Could it be the reason my speedo doesnt work?

I ask because the cable I got said without cruise control byt does not have the prooer end on it to go into the back of the speedo.

This is what I'm assuming is the speedometer end, but it does not lock into place like the old one, although it seems to fit perfectly on the speedos input

You're correct in assuming that that is the cruise control speed sensor.  Not sure you can adapt the non CC speedo cable to make it work with the sensor.

I'm doing away with the cruise sensor. It does me no good since my truck doesnt have the rest of the cc components. Any way to make this cable lock into the back of the speedo without getting creative with zip ties?

That I'm not sure on.  I'm surprised it doesn't have the correct end.  There's only two styles of speedo cables that I know of... '84 - '86 and the '87 - '90.  The one you have pictured doesn't look like either that I've seen...  Where did you get the replacement cable?

I believe you would need to get the short cable that goes from the cluster to the speed scensor.  Or just order a cable with out cruise.  Rock Auto listed a few.

Its what oreillys carries. I first tried replacing the short cable and it made no difference, thats why I bought this replacement and its listed as for jeeps without cruise. I installed it, and it works, but its a bit long and clicks.
