Blue88Comanche
Note to self... Always check the oil if you don't remember the last time you checked it... I was driving to work when the engine started running a little rough.. i was only 2 min from work when it started acting up, so kept going.. I Checked to oil and it was about half way between the end of the dip stick and the fill line. Later i am going to get someone to drive me to the parts store for some oil. I see a past due oil change in the very near future.
Comanchemodder
On my old 2.5L, it burned/leaked a quart every tank-full. Did you know that the oil pressure idiot light comes on when you are off the dipstick? I found that out a few times...
Blue88Comanche
i have the full gauge cluster, the only thing i looked at on my way to work was the speed fuel and temp. it never over heated. Did not even think about the oil till i got out of the truck.
Automan2164
As long as it was still on the stick, I doubt a couple quarts low would cause anything too drastic. Rob
gogmorgo
My sister regularly ran the oil in my dad's tired old oil-burning sbc van off the end of the dipstick. She even found out that if there isn't enough oil, then it won't start. (oil level safety switches) The story hasn't ended yet... and just a few weeks ago the van made a 1200 mile trip pretty well straight through in 27 hours. And that was just the return leg. The light comes on when your oil pressure drops to 0. IE, the oil pump is sucking air instead of oil.

I assumed the g-force moved oil away from the pick-up. That was my reminder light to fill up.
