Zenobian_84
Referring to the S-shaped bar (#8, PN: 55010722) that runs across the top of the battery anchoring it in place. Replaced my cracked battery tray today with a good one I snagged up from the junkyard. For whatever reason, I can't seem to find this part anywhere in any junkyard down here in FL. Everyone seems to jury-rig these things in place with whatever they can find that'll work. Found one online for around $20, seems to be the going rate on these things. Is this the cheapest I'll be able to go on this bracket (in new condition at least)?

nitroxsteve
Junk yards pull the battery before they put the vehicle on the yard. They usually throw them away or tear them up. You could ask the yard what they do with themand show them the picture. I got one for my truck at the junk yard for $3 if I remember correctly. Sometimes I do find these brackets, but they're in pretty terrible shape. :dunno: Seems where I'm looking at mine might just be the cheapest. Still, I might give the wanted section a shout out to see if anyone can hook me up. Would rather give another Jeeper some money before some Mopar parts place. :hmm:
Keyav8r
You can occasionally find one at the JY but they are usually in bad shape. The plastic coating gets cut or scratched and acid fumes from the battery get under the plastic and corrode the metal. Strip off all the plastic, blast or wire brush all the corrosion off, put on a heavy primer coat and good rust resistant paint. I plan to dip mine in Plasticoat after blasting. I also considered MAKING one with some 3/8" rod stock and a torch...Heat to red hot at bend spots...bend...really pretty easy. Then paint or dip. Seems it'd be better than a bungee cord
