jimoshel
I'm getting ready to swap all the gauges from a '88 instrument panel to a '85 instrument panel.Just curious to see if it will work or not. What I would like to know is whether or not someone has already did this. Save me from having to re-invent the wheel so to speak. All I really need is to swap the gas gauge to convert a 3/4 panel to a full panel The reason for swapping all the gauges is so the faces match. HOrnbrod
I have not, but I've done several Renix - HO cluster/gauge swaps and vice-versa. Are you swapping a full set of six gauges from an 88 cluster into a full six gauge 85 cluster? If so, yes it will be fine as the cluster housings and gauge / indicator light circuit foils are the same. Assume the speedo cable should be the same too. jimoshel
I have a '86 3/4 cluster. The BIG gas gauge and no tach. I have a bunch of ''87 up full panels. I want a '86 full cluster, small gas gauge in the lower left hand and a tach. Speedo cables are the same.
HOrnbrod
Should work fine then if the '86 3/4 cluster has temp and oil pressure gauges. What about the engines for the correct tach sync?I haven't done that one...
jimoshel
It'll be going into a 2.8 6cyl. The '88 is from a 4.0 6 cyl so that parts OK. I have a '86 with idiot lights and I'm going swap the full cluster into it. Also there's a couple guys advertising for a fuul cluster under wanted so maybe I can sell a couple. Get the tach to work with a 2.5.

onlyinajeep726
If you're putting a tach from a 6-cyl. into a 4-cyl. Jeep, your best bet is to get a cluster from a '90 XJ or MJ. They have that little potentiometer on the tach circuit that be adjusted to show the correct RPM's. I've done it with success before I did my engine swap in my MJ.
