Eagle
My wife's 2000 XJ has factory foglights. The 2001 XJ I picked up and am reconditioning for our daughter doesn't have fogs. I have the dashboard switch on order from the stealership. The question is: Is the wiring already there for the fogs, or will I have to make a harness? jimoshel
There should be a wire behind and at the bottom of the grill for fogs. If I remember right it's red, but I'm not sure about the color.
yxmj
Just a thought but check the fuse panel by the passenger kick plate...is there a fuse tags fog (running?) lights? If it is there is you have it made in the shade. (I would bet it is there)

jimoshel
Correction. The wire(s) are light Blue with Black tracer.
Automan2164
Eagle, I was told that while all the dash wiring and such is there, they don't have the fog harness in the header panel. In order to get the pigtails, you have to switch the header panel harness. I was also made aware that another problem some have ran into was that the fog light relay in the underhood junction box isn't there if you don't have the option. -Easy to overcome- But, if you are as unlucky as some people I have read about, there aren't even pins in the junction box to accept the relay. Rob That's what I was afraid of. Looks like I'm back in the wiring harness business.

Rob This was true in the 01 XJ I had years ago. Instead of switching the header panel harness, I added a factory fog lamp dash switch, used the existing harness out to the header panel and picked up the dash switch output (switched ground) and used it to trigger my own fog lamp relay. Then wired in the relay power contacts to the lamps w/o wiring in the high beam shutoff. So this is probably unsat for you Eagle. There was a factory harness kit offered for adding fogs to the 97-01 XJs, but the cost was ridiculous even back then. Automan2164
Eagle, may be worth a call to the dealer and see if they have an NOS kit laying around for the upfit. May be able to talk them down on price also. I bought the header panel harness and it's still hanging on the wall in the garage to go into my '97 XJ. I'll let you know if I beat ya to it. HOrnbrod
If all else fails: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Jeep-Cherokee-Fog-Light-Wiring-Kit-FogLight-Installation-MOPAR-OEM-82204235-/121101157052?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1c323102bc&vxp=mtr This is actually less $$ now than it was when I was looking at it. Automan2164
That's not too bad at all. I picked up a set of mopar fogs and brackets that is the match to the kit for roughly $90 at the dealer of you go that route also. No China lenses.Rob
Eagle
$99? I'll make my own. It's easy enough to add a second relay to the basic configuration described by Hornbrod.
Automan2164
Eagle, figured I would chime in here with more info. I have some time off coming up soon, and wanted to get my ducks in a row to get the fogs in my XJ. First, popped open the PDC to check for the fog relay pins... Nada. Empty. Even pulled up the cover over the pins to see if they dead-ended in there... Nope. Next, I moved to the C106 connector at the headlight harness to see if the wires may possibly be that far, as they go from the switch directly to the fogs, per the diagram. Nothing there either. It's too dark and cold to do it right now, but the next step is to check at the C100 connector at the dash to see if I can pick up the switch wiring, or find out where it dead ends. The wiring is at the switch, so maybe I won't have to entirely run wire... But most likely I will have to do the rest. Going to do like Don and make a dedicated load circuit controlled by a relay VIA the factory switch. Also have the Putco head light harness conversion for a cleaner power to the headlamps waiting. Rymanrph
I added a Mopar add on kit for my MJ ('97 conversion) and it works fine, but I think if I were to do it again, I would just run my own harness to a factory switch. I think I found a dummy pigtail behind the dash that I was able to use. When I wired my roll bar lights, I used a factory switch and an aftermarket harness. I actually prefer that because I can turn them on whenever I want. The way the add on harness is wired, they only work when the parking lights/low beams are on and turn off when the high beams come on.
