Knucklehead97
So I looked up under my brothers truck and I noticed a wet spot on the differential cover. And theres been a weird whirring coming from the rear at certain speeds/rpms. So I'm thinking he's low on differential fluid and that its leaking out of the weird plug on the differential cover. How do I get more fluid in? What fluid do i use? And how can I seal that plug?
onlyinajeep726
Buy a new fill plug, buy a LubeLocker gasket and get 2 quarts of synthentic 75W-90 gear oil. It's a simple process. Remove diff cover Let fluid drain Clean off old gasket/permatex Pop out old fill plug Reinstall cover with LubeLocker gasket Fill with gear oil until it just starts to come out of the bottom of the fill hole Insert new plug Done. Make sure you do all of this on level ground.
mvusse
To just top it off, pry the rubber plug out with a screw driver, top off with GL-5 gear oil, buy new plug from parts store. $2.99 at Autozone, similarly cheap everywhere else. Knucklehead97
Well thats alot easier than I expected. He has a lift and the axle is rotated to correct driveshaft angle, its not much, but will it effect anything?

If anything the rotation will make the fluid easier to drain
