ftpiercecracker1
After learning that my ball joints will need to be replaced i wonder if there is something i can do to improve the durability/strength/reliability of the factory steering system. Every time i take my truck out i am always fearful i am going to fudge something up. The factory steering seems to be painfully under engineered for any kind of offroading. As of right now my truck is more or less stock. It does have coil spacers and 31 ATs, factory 3.07 gears and D35. My final goal for the truck is to have something i can take out and wheel fairly hard, but to be able to get off the trail and drive home as if nothing had happened. Here are the conversions that i know of WJ steering conversion High Steer conversion One Ton conversion Various ZJ steering upgrades and quick steer box out of a Wrangler, I think. If there is anything else please list it.
H3RESQ
You can't get much easier than Currie Correct Link setup. Its basically a burly bolt in version of what you have. http://www.currieenterprises.com/cestore/product.aspx?id=1219 You might also check out KevinsOffroad. Kevin is a great guy and has put a lot of time into the "death wobble" issue and how to fix it. http://www.kevinsoffroad.com/cart/tj-death-wobble-package-for-1-to-35-of-suspension-lift-p-1080/

H3RESQ
Ya, it is pricey. But its good. Keep in mind your getting new rod ends, etc. too. Also the nice thing is if you bend the lower tie rod ( I have ran this setup on a few rigs) you can replace just it. Most companys don't sell there modified steering set ups part by part. Also....keep an eye out you might find a used one on craigs or Pirate. Make sure you can check the rod ends though, there exspensive in themselves to replace. Also, if you ever get rid of it, it will hold its value well. I know I sold a used one for about $300 once. You can't get much easier than Currie Correct Link setup. Crash
The draglink is the same But the V8 tie rod is solid. If you can pick one up for cheap enough including repalceming the TRE's go for it. Otherwise I would say spend 100$ and get an aftermarket tie rod with ends. If you are looking for better braking as well. Then a WJ swap would be good. There is some work involved tho. It is not just plug n pray.

More like, impossible for anyone that doesn't have access to a machine shop and deep pockets. :fs1: http://www.4x4wire.com/jeep/tech/brakes/xj_wjbrakes03/index.htm
