Lift Kit For Camper - 91' Comanche

Hi all, 

 

I am looking into getting a 3" lift kit for my 91' comanche. I am putting a small homemade camper on the back and want that extra clearance to make up for the weight of the camper which should be roughly 400 lbs bare. Anyone know of a good affordable option for these needs?

 

I am starting this homemade camper sept 1 and will post photos along the way.

I think you're making a HUGE mistake. A camper will move the center of gravity a lot higher than it is. A lift will just make that even worse. IMHO what you really should be looking for is a set of metric ton springs -- something to add load capacity withOUT raisng the center of gravity.

400 or so pounds on M-ton springs will make it ride nice. Keep the COG low.

You will still get some lift with new MT springs. The amount will depend on the current condition of your existing springs, and the weight of your camper. And I agree - MT springs are the best way to go.

Thanks a lot, this is exactly why I looked to forums for advice. What you have described is definitely more what I need. I agree, with the camper the COG will need to stay as low as possible and there is no need to "lift" it at all... just something to counteract the weight of the camper... as long as she doesn't bottom out off road or look bed heavy.
