Oddmodman Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 I got a chrome trim set about a week ago. I noticed that on the driver's side light bracket there were a few rusty pinholes shining through the nice chrome. Can this be repaired or is it condemned to the trash heap?
GirsMJ86 Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Only option would be to take it somewhere that could rechrome it.
Keyav8r Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 And chrome shops, because of EPA regs, are becoming few and far between!
Eagle Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Light bracket? Are you talking about the retainer ring that holds the headlight into the bucket? If so, it's not chrome, it's stainless steel. If it has holes in it, throw it away and get another.
Oddmodman Posted July 12, 2013 Author Posted July 12, 2013 Like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Jeep-Cherokee-97-01-Chrome-Headlight-Trim-Bezel-Right-/350614188607 , except mine's from a '95.
GirsMJ86 Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Just buy new ones of those as well. Had some aftermarket ones before off ebay and they fit decent. Guess I should have asked for specification earlier, but been so tired lately I didn't think.
Oddmodman Posted July 12, 2013 Author Posted July 12, 2013 Mmm, I'm cheap. I'll probably just put a dab of similar color paint on to disguise it.
ParadiseMJ Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Junkyard is cheap! A good bit of my truck is junkyard parts, chrome trim included. There's this one too! Right years. http://www.ebay.com/itm/12419-14-Rugged-Ridge-Silver-Right-Headlight-Bezel-JEEP-CHEROKEE-XJ-1991-1996-/200898954051?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2ec682c343&vxp=mtr
Oddmodman Posted July 12, 2013 Author Posted July 12, 2013 Hah, thanks for keeping an eye out. Unfortunately, due to extravagant shipping to AK, I'd pay out about 25 bucks for that thing total. And there are no such things as pick-n-pulls here. Junkyards are few and expensive. But thanks!
Eagle Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 That part is plastic, and the plating on it is not chrome ... it's "chrome-like." Whatever blemishes you see, they aren't rust because plastic doesn't rust. Given your location, I'd say just clean it up, wax it, and drive it.
