I will use this to lock Mountain Bikes but, could be used for anything to add security. This was an easy project.

 

- Remove rear tail light.

- I used a dremel to remove the rivet heads on the existing tie down loop.

- The holes are almost a match - almost.  Modified with drill.

- Installed the lock base and Lock assembly

- Re-installed the rear tail light.

- Presto.....

This would be a good place to secure the cable that is attached to the bottom of your tail gate (import tail gate cables work well), for those of you who worry about losing your tail gate in less than secure areas. As our trucks are getting older and parts have become more valuable, I wonder how many people have lost their tailgate because of lack of a lock.

This seems a good idea, but as we all know its just a deterrent to some body who really wants your stuff.

I like this idea how would the tailgate be secured?

I guess you could then lock it to the factory tiedown?  

 

apparently my method for tailgate retention was always to have a gate that didn't work.
