Are Ho And Renix Alternators Interchangeable?

Recommended Posts

 didn't think so be wanted to be sure before hitting the junkyard again.  this "free" XJ is sure costing me a pretty penny to get it running right. :ack:   (not that it's a surprise to anyone)

It's probably the standard 90A alt, so look at the donor p/n on the tag for a bolt-in upgrade. The 136A was in the V8 Grands and Dodge trucks and it fits well. Mine just bolted in, but some guys have had to do some minor grinding on the brackets so they will fit.

Pete,

Not sure if you are a cheap-o like me- I rebuilt two Denso alternators using the attached link.  I did not replace the bearings, just the brushes.  You should look at the slip rings on the rotor shaft to make sure they are not excessively worn.  I think they are replaceable, I didn't change them on my alternators.
