codymanche Posted February 12, 2013 Share Posted February 12, 2013 Hey guys. Well we got the engine and tranmission in on the "big green truck" here in the last 2 weeks. So i hooked up the starter and started getting things plugged in but i don't know where the other side of the plug that it plugs in to. There is a plug that it can go into by the valve cover but thats the only one i see? Is this the right one. If some one has a pic of where it plugs in to could you please share the pic? codymanche Posted February 14, 2013 Author Share Posted February 14, 2013 that would work too! on the donor though where the crank sensor plugs in its plugged in goes through the fire wall and then theres one by the valve cover. the one i unplugged went through the firewall on the xj donor. the comanche only has one by the valve cover. The early (Renix) XJ and MJs sometimes had a problem with a weak signal from the CPS to the ECU due to the fact that the CPS fed through the wiring harness to get to the ECU. The factory released a fix that bypassed the wiring harness, using a new connector that went directly through a new hole drilled in the firewall and straight into the ECU. For an 89 or a 90, the original CPU connector wires should go into the big wiring harness. If the CPU connector has two wires that run directly through the firewall, that vehicle has had the bypass performed. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Then they came up with Kluge fixes like bypasses like the CPU "fix". It was a win-win for AMC because the average owner had no means to diagnose the ECU w/o a the proprietary DBR2 scanner, thus had to resort to dealer diagnostic $$ for troubleshooting. Not surprising that Renault, at the time, still partially owned by the French Government*, would apply their content laws to US vehicles produced for US consumption. (rolleyes) *The French Government claimed the deceased owner of Renault had worked with the Nazi's during the WWII German occupation of France. He wasn't alive to deny it, so they Nationalized (took) the company.
