tranny problems..

Recommended Posts

lastnight i took the 91 2wd up to the shop to swap the slave cylinder which is what was bad all along.. i got everything unbolted had the tranny tilted down.. undbolted the bellhousing from the motor.. but the tranny will not come out for nothing! i tried for hours to get it off the motor but it still won't budge :headpop: is there some trick to it? when i did the clutch on my 4wd tranny..(the 88 manche) .. it popped off after unbolting it from the motor.. so wtf? iam out of ideas and its just sitting up at the shop right now tranny hanging...

Did you take the cross member out all the way if you check on the back of the tranny bracket there is a tab that hold the exhaust pipe up that was were mine was hung up. Same thing happen to me the 4x4 tranny fell out and the 2wd would not move so I bet it is that tab.

If you're sure you got all the bellhousing bolts off, thread one or two of them back in a bit to act as a safety and push up/down on the tailshaft while pulling it backward...the only thing that could be hanging up is the input shaft splines inside the clutch disc.

Wait a minute, yours is a 4.0L right? Did you pull the starter?

yep i pulled the starter, and the crossmember is all the way off.. everything is off. this isnt the first time ive done a clutch.. but it is the first time ive done one on a 2wd tranny i thought it would be easier.. but its making me regret owning this truck
