Are These A Good Deal?

Recommended Posts

A local Junkyard priced me two very clean bucket Cherokee seats and the mounts as well as a small console for 150.00 good deal? This is a totally untouched jeep he has, any other parts I should get that may be worth it?

Some of these JY guys think every junker they have is a gold mine and every part is a big nugget. There's one in No. AL that has several MJs. I went there looking for a tailgate and the guy wanted $100 for a beat up gate not much better than mine and $175 for one w/o rust but with several dents.

Picked up a straight, rust-free gate from another CC member for $80, and a pair of XJ buckets w/sliders for about $50 and a console under $20 from local P&P. Look for a P&P in your area. You'll have to pull the parts yourself, but that gives you control over what parts you get and assures they won't be damaged in the removal process (and you can get all the nuts and bolts).

Unless they are black...

Even if so, the yards don't know how desirable that color is... Most of the time, if it is a decent yard, the price is always decent...

OP, if sounds like you don't have much experience in the JY, and they may have picked up on this hoping to grab a sucker. Unless the prices are posted, everything is negotiable. Everything. I've even paid in Budweiser before. Just depends on the yard. If you look like you don't belong there, they can tell.

Go into your closet, find the crappiest set of clothes you own, let them sit outside for a week, cut some holes in them, go roll in some mud and skip a shower. Walk in then, and I bet your price may be different.

Sometimes it's not necessarily what you wear to the yard, it's how you act. Before I retired, I used to run over to a close-by yard during my lunch hour or grab a couple of hours off from work because it saved my a good sixty miles than if I drove from the house. The problem was when I came over from work I was wearing a suit and tie (no choice, I hated it). The first couple of times I came in the yard monkeys all looked at me funny and snickered. I'd check in, throw on a set of coveralls, grab my tools, and go get what I needed. The boss man noticed my MJ one day, came out and we started yakking. Turned out he was an MJ guy and drove one as his D/D. After that nobody snickered anymore. He also had a private MJ stash in one of his buildings where I got my MJ buckets and brackets, console, several sets of tails, a lot of the chrome hardware, a chrome and tube bumper, couple of leather steering wheels, cargo lamps and bezels, and a whole lot of other stuff all at good prices. On a Friday night here and there I slide over with a couple of cases for the boys and got to know everyone well. After time they were nearly giving me stuff. Never found an MJ D44 there though.

Thanks for the input guys. I bought a cheaper set from a different yard. Went to the original and the guys who worked there could have been Carl from sling blades brothers and rude as all get out! Found what I wanted elsewhere.
