Gents, Can I tuck 33"s

Recommended Posts

haha, you just added me to facebook...

anyways, on the topic. i think the answer would be no. 4" maybe. i'm running a 3" right now and i've got 31" tires...they barely fit and still rub. but then again, my truck was a 2wd when i started so the rear springs are lower than 4wd rears. all in all my truck sits pretty low for a 3" lift.

I do agree with you that you can't expect them not to rub. I do still rub with my 31" tires now when I'm really flexing. Thing is though that I was able to put these 31" on when I had the truck sitting on no lift at all. Granted I was just wheeling it around the drive when I did it... I am wondering if anyone out there has 33" tires they are running and do most of their driving on the road and if they are having troubles with them or not...

These are what I am looking at picking up. The rims alone sell for $114 each new. Tires have 95% left on them. 33x12.5R15 Rims are 10" Eagle Alloy Series 187.

Good deal or not? 4 Tires/Rims/Center Caps for $590?

thought you already had a 4.5" rear spring set? those tires will fit i'm sure, just some minor trimming may be required. also they look like they have good backspacing...my rims are tucked in pretty close but hardly rub with the 31's. if they were 2 inches further out, i could fit 33's in with the same amount of minimal rubbing.

Yah, I took the lower leaf off of those packs from Rusty's. It sat way too high for the 31's then. It looked odd. So I took the bottom leaf out and it leveled things out. Hense the pic on FB stating the 4.5"#. Front coils are 3.5" though.

These rims are 10's, 3 5/8" B.S.? IDK if thats good or bad...?

that backspacing is as good as you're prolly gonna get...it means that 6 and 3/8" is on the other side of the center. well, more like 5 and 6/8" as the middle of the rim is probably around 5/8" thick. that's around what i'd like from those other rims you've got if i can get them backspacing wise :D

basically, add that leaf back, and get a 1 to 2" spacer kit for the front and do get those tires...they're what you want and the spacer is cheap! don't pass up a deal man, but if you can get him to go cheaper, that's a plus...

The big problem is not the height, its the width!! They are going to hit hard at the lower rear edge of your front wheel wells. That rims BS/offsett combined with the 10 wide rim is whats going to kill you.

BTW, I couldn't run those with my lift and trimming.

I am at almost 7" of lift up front. Its the Rims BS coupled with the 10" width. If it where on an 8inch rim would likely be OK, but at 10" your sticking out mighty far!! I run a 33X10.5 on a 7" rim W/3.75" BS and have 2-3" of clearance. I had a set of 33X12.5's on those rims (Only the 8" versions) and they hit so hard that I couldn't drive it on the street. That was before I trimmed, but I still think the 10 with is going to be the killer. Maybe the guy selling will allow you to TRY before you BUY???

The deal is OK, if you like the tire and wheel. Just last night, I picked up a set of 5 AR 15X8 alum rims (3.75" BS)with 5 BFG AT's for $500. The tires where advertised to have 9000 miles on them with a brand new spare. Well the spare was brand new but the tires had about 20% tread wear. Still a great deal with PLENTY of tread left. just not what was abvertised. So beware.

So I guess that this is where having a Wrangler is nice because of the lack of having to trim... :chillin:

Just how much trimming will be needed in your opinions? Will this cause me to lose my MJ fender flares? Also, I am running a 27 spline 8.25 and the D30 with smaller shafts as well. I DO NOT rat on it when I am wheeling. Should I be concerned about the 33's. How about the 3.55 ratio?

I agree. I have 6.5" of lift and my 33's still rubbed on the front of the fender until I trimed them. I have 12.5" tires on 10" rims and was able to trim enough for clearance. I also had to bend the pinch weld over that is in the middle of the fender.

JeepcoMJ, what brand of 3" lift do you have? any pics?

Rough Country lift, i'm damned impressed with it. it rides very nice...but I'd like to have it be 4" just for clearance. the 31x10.50's fit in there just fine with minimal rubbing, but I would like it to appear more open. also keep in mind that the back of yours might sit higher if it's a stock 4wd...mine was 2wd so my rear springs were lower.

bumpstops, bumpstops, bumpstops...

agreed.

If I can fit 34x9.5's on 3" you won' have any problems.

I'm bumpstopped and trimmed, they tuck into the fender wells just fine.

If you're using the stock rims I imagine they'd rub on the LCAs.

I'm using 15x8's with 3.75" BS, cause that's the rims that came with the tire deal.

Well, I'm getting them. I've got the bug enough now that if I need to trim the fenders to fit them, I will. I'll look at lifting it higher with my AAL and some spacers up front first. This may cost me some money to make them work, but isnt that why we do what we do? Just Empty Every Pocket ;)

Here is a shot I just took of my MJ showing the lower rear edge where you will have contact. Again, fitting 33's will work with your lift. ESP if you correctly bumpstop it. BUT THIS IS DIFFERENT. This is steering, because of the amount they will protrude. With out some serious cutting they will hit hard in this area.

Remember, I am TRIMMED already and my caster is set to fact spec.

Good luck,

CW

I use picturetrail.com and they will automatically shrink the pics to certain sizes. Otherwise, I suggest getting yourself a photo altering program (Microsoft Paint sucks). I use ACDSee and Irfanview (I can send you the free version of irfanview, send me an email: petermontie@hotmail.com).

welcome comanche5L yea i love RC they're great lifts. i'm actually lookin at buying a RC 4.5 or 5" leaf system if they make them...not add-a-leafs. that's the one thing on my truck is it was 2wd so it had lower springs on the back and the add-a-leafs didn't lift it as high as the springs did. but i wanna add an adjustable track bar and 4.5 coils and new shocks to the truck to make it work the way i want :D i love the 3" but i want a lil more room in the wheel wells for the aesthetics.

  • 2 weeks later...

So for those who havent figured it out yet, I got em and I did lift the MJ to fit em.

I threw in some spacers in the front and AAL in the rear.

Got my matching spare today too, $299.85 out the door for what you see. I think I got a great deal on the other 4 for $590 ;)
