Southpaw26 Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Just wanted to say hello to everyone. I recently acquired a 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4x4 automatic with a 4.0 engine. Very excited to begin fixing this Comanche up. Seems to be a very solid truck. I was told that the truck had a 1999 model engine installed. I have the engine code on the front of the motor but don't know if it is indeed a 1999 engine. Any help on this would be great. Trace 53011187 M2ZJ 9 187 7918 324936 PLT B/CODE YR DATE SEQ NUM
Comanche County Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Does it have a complete HO conversion or did they just replace the block?
87jeepmj Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 The last to letters ZJ means it came out of a grand cherokee which also means it is pre 1999

HOrnbrod Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Look over the block for the casting number. It's a much more accurate way to tell what it is (was). Year Casting No 1987-90 53005535 1991-95 53008405 1996-98 53020569 1997-?? 53010341 1999-04 53010449 2000UP 53010328 (2000+ wrangler/XJ) 2000UP 53020569 (2000+ Grand Cherokee)

Southpaw26 Posted October 27, 2012 Author Posted October 27, 2012 Ok how would I know if it is compete HO? What year did the HO become available?
ftpiercecracker1 Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 Is the throttle body mounted using 4 hex head bolts or 3 large torxs bolts? some pictures would help as well.
