johnj92131
On my Isuzu Rodeo, I can go from 2wd to 4x4 High while driving on the road. But to shift into 4x4 Low, I have to stop and shift into low. Is this the same way "Shift on the Fly" works with the NP 242? Just toying with a 4x4 conversion to a NP 242 AW4 from a 2wd AW4 for the Comanche. I don't drive off road, just looking to use the Comanche as a tow vehicle for my camping trailer for some possible winter use in wetter places than Southern California. mvusse
I know in the 231 there is a syncrho between 2wd and 4 high. I assume the 242 is the same.
cruiser54
Here's how the factory suggests you shift the transfer case and I've been doing this since these things were new and I worked at the dealership. Quoted from the owner's manual. "To engage, shift the transfer case lever from 2H to 4H while the vehicle is moving at any legal speed". I let off the gas, throw the lever and then tap the gas and let off. 4L position: " To engage, slow the vehicle to 2-3 MPH , shift the transmission to Neutral, then shift the transfer lever to the right and pull firmly rearward to 4L".
