Cheeeese
Hey guys, so ive been lurking here for awhile since I picked up my comanche about a year ago. A couple weeks ago I finished swapping to the external clutch slave setup off a 95 cherokee and when I did it I took the opportunity to sway the rear main and oil pan gasket. Since that point, I can't get her to stop pissing oil out of the bottom of the bellhousing in front of the flywheel. I've done the rear main twice now (by the book) and the oil pan gasket 4 times and it still leaks. I've tried every trick I can find online with the oil pan gasket. Ive glued it to the pan, glued it to the block, tied it to the pan, installed it dry and installed it covered w/ RTV and nothing works. I also made sure to tighten everything to the factory torque and in the prescribed pattern and get shafted at every turn. Also, I know the valve cover gasket is leaking but definitely not this bad so I am almost certain it is the oil pan gasket. Does anyone else have any helpful tips or ideas that I wouldn't necessarily find searching online?
Pete M
how long have you waited to let the silicone cure? did you see any gouges in the crankshaft where the seal rides? they make double-lipped seals for that.
Cheeeese
I waited 24hrs for the RTV to dry (per the bottle). I didnt see any gouges but I haven't tried the double lipped rear main. Any idea where to get one of those? It certain can't hurt to try it next time I drop the pan
Comanche County
Don't get discouraged, took me a couple of tries to get the rear main sealed up. Finally sealed it with a special formula for RTV, its called "Formula P" stands for Plenty. Oil pressure shot back up to normal levels after that too. Eagle
What are you using for the pan gasket? Are you using the new, one-piece gasket (good) or the old, multi-piece gasket set (bad)?
ILLXJ
I haven't tried the double lipped rear main. Any idea where to get one of those? I got mine at NAPA. I would post the part #, but I don't have it here at work. JIM.
