SlimFisher
I've come across quite a bit on this board about using XJ buckets. I'm wondering if anyone has had success with after market seats like APC or any of the universal racing style buckets found on eBay. eBay #160088303880 is an example of what I'm talking about. I have seen them available locally in the classifieds for reasonable prices from time to time. If anyone has a set of these kind of seats I would love to see some pics, and get some feedback on comfort and fitment.
Oizarod115
you could always chop/weld/bolt/reconfigure your manche's bucket brackets to run those seats. my XJ buckets were cut off their origional bracekts, brackets cut off manchebench, and then bolted through existing holes to the buckets' sliders. sits a little funky, but if i got creative/cared i could fix it in a few hours. SlimFisher
Apparently they come with "Universal Sliders" which probably means they fit Honda's. I was wondering if they would be too wide, or sit too low to the ground.
purplexj
Due to the adapter they sit higher. The slider is sandwiched between seat and old bracket. personally I find yhe MJ seats are are a little because I'm used to my XJ power seats which ride higher. I'm sure they fit better in the comanche.
SlimFisher
Thanks, I think I'm going to pick up a pair. I don't mind them being a bit higher. I'm no giant so I got headroom. My bench is saggy the driver side so I feel like I'm sitting too low now anyway. The passenger side is like new though.
JOMJ87
I have seen some racing buckets on www.completeoffroad.com for one new one its 60 bucks which aint bad with the free shipping they have. All you would need to do is get some mj brackets and adapt it to the seats which should be kinda simple if you have any fab experience. I thought of this option but i think i am going to go bench again cause i don't like my buckets and they are tore up. I am not tall and i have xj buckets in mine which causes me to have to Jump up in my truck since its got 7+" of lift and 35s on it. My seat started breaking on the edge so now its time for new ones. SlimFisher
$60 a seat seems like a bargain, but nobody ships to Canada for free, and duty would also apply. I found a pair of new APC seats that this guy bought but wrecked his car before he put them in. I'm sprucing up the interior a bit to I was looking for something a little more colourful. The seats are black and red. I also have a black and red leather steering wheel on the way, and a quick release hub. Next step is the stereo. At least from the inside my 2.5l Comanchee will look like a race car.
purplexj
I've sat in those seats at my local alarm stereo shop. $350 installed , but they had them installed on a mock up. They are comfy, except for the fact that they are short in the leg area. Front to back. They feel like they will have a pinch point on the back of your thigh. Whenever I go there I sit in them and when I get back into my Laredo seats , aaah feels good. I have XJ waggy seats in my home office on office seat mounts and they are better. The waggy seats seem to be tighter and the Laredo softer. I also added a lumbar support in the seat and wow! I'm 5'10" so if your shorter you might be moore comfortable. SlimFisher
My bench feels like I'm sitting on a 90 deg angle. My back is not the best either, so anything that reclines a bit is more comfortable. I'm 5'8". Anyway, I'm going to go check them out in a few days. The guy who has them left me an out if I am not satisfied. I'm picking them up for $100 (CDN) a seat, so I don't know what else I would find that looks a bit sporty and does the job for the same price. purplexj
At 5'8 you should be good. Mine came with a soundbar in it and I still have room but I'm as far back as the seat goes.
pingpong
When I put the PRP seats in Pong we just built custom frame using some tabs, and some L brackets from Home depot and some tubing. Works great fro a fixed position seat. I guess we could have set it up for sliders, but there was no point as I will be the only driver
carnuck
You can't recline in the cab. You hit your head on the back window! :chillin:
SlimFisher
I don't need to put the seat all the way back, so there is room to recline. I drove a regular cab Gen1 S10 before, and it was the same story.
