dancome433
As the title says I'm looking for a pair of rear bumper brackets for a shortbed, I would also be willing to trade my set longbed rear bumper brackets for the shortbed ones

dancome433
As the title says I'm looking for a pair of rear bumper brackets for a shortbed, I would also be willing to trade my set longbed rear bumper brackets for the shortbed ones Shortbed and longbed rear step bumper brackets have the same part numbers. The only difference is right and left. There is a difference between long and short bed rear bumper brackets. Because the frame on long beds is longer, the leaf spring hanger doesnt sit as far back on the frame, therefore the bracket doesnt interfere with it, but since the short bed MJs have a shorter frame and the hanger is pretty much at the end of the frame, the brackets from a long bed hit the bolt that connects the shackle to the hanger. The difference between them is short bed brackets have a bit cut away from them so it doesnt interfere with the bolt that connects the shackle to the hanger. Also it has a cut on the bottom where it turns a 90* angle, that way it can run along the bottom of the frame without hitting the hanger for the shackle. In way you are right, the brackets are the same but with some minor characteristics. I figured out you can easily modify the brackets to fit by making the required adjustments. Ill write a DIY with pics for it if no one has yet.
HOrnbrod
Like I said, the rear MJ factory step bumper brackets are the same throughout the 86-92 years for both LWB and SWB. I've had a few NOS bumpers and brackets pass through here. Side by side they are exactly the same. Would like to see what you are talking about in pics. dave92cherokee
viewtopic.php?p=298009#p298009 Look at my post about half way down the page. Those were pics taken when the company was looking to make some brackets. The LWB mounts on the side are bigger and flat, the SWB mounts on the side have the cut outs as mentioned plus a clearance bend to go around the shackle mount on the outside of the frame. TylerJY
The brackets are indeed different. We learned this when we installed my Nate's 4x4 rear bumper. We had some spacers made.
HOrnbrod
Very odd, nut I believe it now. The step bumper bracket part numbers are 55009382-3 for all the MJ years, and these are the only part numbers listed in every manual w. no distinction between LWB and SWB. I have a couple of sets of NOS brackets and will dig them out and take some pics to see which ones they look like.
