sinnaevd Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 Hey fella's, we have a great deaql of knowledge here and i wondering if you could give me some help A friend and I are going to be putting a AMC 360 into a CJ, which has a 304 right now WHAT SHOULD WE LOOK OUT FOR? WHAT PROBLEMS WILL WE BE RUNNING INTO? TIA
Pete M Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 I seem to remember they are essentially identical on the outside. Can't be certain though since I've never actually touch either one before. :dunno:
86FUBAR Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 i believe they are identical to . check out JPmagazine.com i believe their was a good size write up in there bout the 304 360 a few months back
carnuck Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 Use the correct flexplate/flywheel. 360 and 304 are slightly different balancing. (360 takes more) Don't use a 4 bbl intake meant for the 304 on the 360 (SP2P especially) If you are dealing with a TH400 to 727 trans, the flexplates are different AND the TH400 required a thin sleeve in the crank pilot hole. If you bolt the 727 up to it with the sleeve still in there (about the size/thickness of a speedi sleeve) you WILL punch the front pump of the 727! It'll run maybe a week tops before it self destructs. (I see that a lot on FSJs when people put '79 and older motors into '80 and newer rigs)
