89JeepMJ Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 what does it mean when my gas quage goes all the way up past full and bottoms out and stays there. is there no connection to the sending unit? Thanks Guys
cruiser54 Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 You mean goes all the way to full and past, then stays there?
89JeepMJ Posted June 17, 2012 Author Posted June 17, 2012 yeah it goes past full and goes horizontal. so its pointing at the passenger door. then stays there doesnt move
ComancheKid45 Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 Usually its a ground problem with the sending unit circuit. easyest place to start is taking the LR tail light out and cleaning up the ground connection behind it. ;)
cruiser54 Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 yeah it goes past full and goes horizontal. so its pointing at the passenger door. then stays there doesnt move That tells me that the sending unit wire is probably grounded out somewhere. Always a good idea to refresh the ground behind the taillight as already suggested.
89JeepMJ Posted June 17, 2012 Author Posted June 17, 2012 I just cleaned up that ground not to long ago but ill give it a check you never know :dunno:
cruiser54 Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 It's not the cause of your problem. If you've already cleaned it, you're okay. The wire from the sending unit to the gauge is probably grounded somewhere.
89JeepMJ Posted June 17, 2012 Author Posted June 17, 2012 what if the wire came off the float sensor in the tank
cruiser54 Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 what if the wire came off the float sensor in the tank The gauge would read Empty, unless the wire that fell off touched bare metal. Then it would read Full.
89JeepMJ Posted June 17, 2012 Author Posted June 17, 2012 it turned out the arm in the sensor was a hair away from the contacts and wasnt reading. so bent it in a little bit so it touched and everything works now. probably wasnt the right fix but itll get me by.
