1987 Lwb 4x4

Recommended Posts

Hey everybody, new here. I've always wanted a Comanche, I've owned 4 late 80's early 90's models Cherokees. Could never find a Comanche. Saw this on craigslist yesterday and couldn't pass it up. Its a 1987. Inline 6. 5 speed 4x4. 118k original miles, I'm the second owner. Looking for inspiration and ideas too! I want to learn how to work on them, up until now I have had all my Cherokee's serviced at the dealer, and that is getting expensive. :) Here's some pics. I know its filthy dirty :( I haven't washed it yet. lol I can also upload pics of my Cherokee collection if anyone wants to see them?

Where are you located and welcome aboard! Looks like you need a tailgate but its a good start. Never too late to learn how to work on these older rigs and this site has a bunch of good articles and input from users about any problem/question or concern you might have. Good luck

Update, got the tag, title and insurance work done today. Started driving it, full tank of gas engine and gas cleaner, it has a vaccum leak somewhere, replaced battery, changed spark plugs, seafoamed intake and motor. Wanted to have the oil changed but the shop wouldnt do it because they said i have a leak in my rear main seal. soapbox.gif That will cost $327 for them to replace it. ugh. I'll just have to keep a close watch on the oil levels for now.

Apparently this piece thingy here is why my 4wd wolnt engage :hmm: :???:

Also found bolts plugging vaccum lines and a mess of loose wires. what a nightmare :wall:

Going to the junkyard tommorow, going to install an E-fan in addition to the regular fan to help keep the engine cooler, also looking for a rollbar, tailgate, brush gaurd, interior pieces and some misc. Lots of pics and updates tommorow! image_209027.gif

Pics and updates, still not running for some reason. :wall: Trial and error till i find the problem.

Here's a pic of me and a good looking XJ at the yard.

I added Yakima Racks and Skis to my roof. It gets looks here in Florida, gonna add Kc lights to the rack.

Found an e-fan that was the perfect size for the xj, the donor car!

I've used the e-fans from several Infiniti cars in my jeeps, they fir very well and work good, surprisingly.

Pulling my dash apart to replace cracked plastic and track down wiring gremlins.

Found Oem Fog light switches, which I'm going to wire to my Kc lights, so no tacky switches. Also got rear window wiper switch.

Still looking for good speakers and an Oem stereo deck. hard to find, the xjs in the yard didn't have any stereos.

I'm gonna post these two in tech section too, right around the time my mj started acting up i found this. Any idea what sensor this is? The guys at advance auto had no clue. Its on the block, just above the oil pan if your looking at it from the right front.

more soon! hopefully i can get back on the road soon! soapbox.gifcomanche.gif

Nice looking rig to start with. It's always nice seeing more FL MJ owners on here. If you need any random interior pieces or emblems, I might have what you need. So shoot me a message if you ever feel like it.
