Dieseling truck

Recommended Posts

It's the 2.5l engine, after I've driven a ways and shut the truck off, it'll try and continue to turn over a few more times. I don't think all four cylinders are firing when it kicks itself around a bit more.

Usually when a engine diesels it is because there's a piece of glowing carbon in the cylinder igniting the gas. Remove the carbon. Can pull the head and start scraping. There are several products on the market that helps. I just get a quart of water and with the engine at a fast idle I slowly pour the water into the intake. There are some peeps who when they get down to the last cup of water will pour it all in at once flooding the engine and stalling it. The theory is the water will soak the carbon over night and loosen it some more. I have done that but quit due to the danger of hydro locking the engine. Also just floorboarding the gas pedal will kill the engine due to the inrush of air.

Best method I have used is water down the carb or throttle body. If you have ever pulled a head off and engine with a blown head gasket you will notice the cylinder that was bad is spotless. That is what tipped me off to the water idea. I have been doing it for years. I use and eye dropper though.

I had a 79 Dodge Omni that would run backwards for a few minutes after shutting it off. It was cool and scary at the same time.

All of those old 2.2L carb'd K cars and L cars used to diesel terribly. Mine didn't spin backwards though... Or at least I didn't know it did. Drove it like that for years and just put it in gear after I shut off the car and that always stopped it.

Mine does the same thing but its really random so its hard to tell what/if anything helps. tried the water trick and it didnt seem to do anything so I just deal with it. sometimes it won't do it for a couple weeks at a time. I use the clutch to stop it.
