Blue88Comanche
well I hate AT&T now. ever sense they dropped my unlimited Data plan i have been having problems with my data usage. about a month before I upgraded to the iPhone 4 my 3GS started slowing down to near useless data speeds, so because I wanted the 4 any way i upgraded.. that phone was grate I never had any issues with it, but someone stole moms iPhone 4 and i gave mine to her so she would still have an iPhone. and that's when i got my first Droid phone, the 3D was cool but everything from the phone it self, data, and cell usage in general sucked. after 2 months of that all i wanted to do was put the stupid thing in a blender. Dad let me use his upgrade to get the iPhone 4s and at first it was grate but lately my data has slowed to near useless again, i currently have the 5 gig tethering plan, and have used about 120 Mb of data this month because of the slow speeds, and i shouldn't be throttled by AT&T. well i spent the last 30+ min on the phone with several of their customer service and tech support, and all they are telling me is i need to upgrade the iOS on my phone from 5.0.1 to 5.1, that's a load of BS. My parents, my sister, my roommate, and my grandparents are all using the latest iOS and are having just as many issues or more than i am. that's 1 iPhone 4s, 3 iPhone 4, and 2 iPhone 3GS that are all to the latest iOS. and still having issues. the AT&T rep said that there are no problems reported in our area, and the "Map" shows we have great coverage. what are the odds of 7 current phones, and several we have previously owned all being "defective" or "out of date" when first bought new, or just released. and still have all these problems.  other Companies i hate :fs1: Comcast :fs1: "apparently my area has the Worst customer service rating in the country" - Comcast installer Mediacom :thwak: they don't know how to use a measuring tape, i am apparently 800 feet from the tap.. i went out an measured it my self.. the longest rout was 500 feet. I am the only house on the street that is "not serviceable" end of rant  :fs1: :headpop:
Incommando
I did the $45/month Walmart/Straight talk plan. Unlimited talk/text/web. It has worked well for me since October. The biggest downside is that you have to buy the phone upfront
Automan2164
My roommate has AT&T, and doesn't like it all that much. He's an over the road truck driver, and he uses his phone for pretty much everything. Even though he has the unlimited plan, they throttle him down. IIRC, he said that if you are in the top 5 percent of data in your area, you get throttled. So when he's out in the Boonies he's in the top 5 because there is no one around, and when he's near a big city he's unthrottled. He's got a Sprint data card for his laptop, and loves that. He talks on and off about switching the phone to Sprint. I have Sprint, and love them. I have an EVO, and other than speaker problems (Metal shavings blow them from work) it's been a rock solid phone. First major problem I had with it was because of me trying to dig out the USB and shorting some contacts. I ended up fixing it, but they were already going to replace it... So why not. I could have upgraded, but I don't buy into that 3D stuff, and no other phone had a camera with an 8 Megapixel resolution. Being that my phone is what I use for the forum, I like the nice camera. btm24
You know if you don't want that 4s any longstreet let me know :brows: Anyways AT&T has always been an "ok" company hen it comes to custermer survives. I've had them since I had my first cell phone at 12?. There techs always try to bs you when it comes to problems they don't have a clue how to fix. Them getting rid of the unlimited sucked because that was a month before I got a "real" plan from prepay. Trying to get used to 2gigs a month on an iPhone sucks then I learned that people like my brother still have what they call "unlimited" data get throttled after using 5 or so gigs, wtf? Then when it comes to what your dealing with I went though that just last month. They were updating my areas coverage do you call this 3G speeds?!? So I know what you mean there but don't thing about switching the only other ok cell company to use would be sprint and there coverag sucks. I hope every thing improves tho good luck Brandon
Backdraft
I'm on Verizon, running a rooted Thunderbolt. Luckily I was grandfathered in on the unlimited data. I'm not sure where the cutoff is where they throttle you back, but I usually average around 4Gb per month. Most of that is surfing this site and Netflix. I've gotten to the point where I use my phone more than the desktop, laptop, and netbook. Haven't really had any problems to speak of. As for iPhone and the iOS I couldn't say. Never owned an iPhone. I've been with Droid since the first one came out @2009. Not that I have anything against the iPhone (its a great phone). Its just not my particular brand of vodka. As for speeds here, I can't complain:
AMCJeepMJ
I do the WalMart/StraightTalk plan for $45/month. It allows the user to not be locked in to a 2 year contract, which is nice.
terrawombat
There is no superior cell phone company. You need to go with the company that is best for your area. Your area apparently is poo poo for AT&T, so I'd look into a switch to Verizon or Sprint. Chances are they're not going to upgrade the service in your area any time soon so don't bother waiting for them to. In my case, I've had AT&T since 2002 (when it was Cingular One). I have now lived in two parts of NJ and MD and I have not had ONE single problem with their service. None. Zip. Nada. I consider myself to be living in the middle of nowhere right now and I'm still picking up 4G speeds and when I go to work I'll get 4G LTE and it's laughably fast. My GF has Verizon and it absolutely blows in this area, but it's fantastic everywhere else. Don't get another iPhone. I dunno what their reluctance to use the 4G data network is, but it's a stupid decision as 3G is antiquated technology.
Harley
I had Verizon, they sucked! Then switched to AT&T, they sucked! Then switched back to Sprint (use to be with them back when they were Nextel), never been happier and none of this data BS everybody else has been dealing with. True unlimited. :jump:
danbyrambler
FWIW - - I've been using Straight Talk $45 unlimited for my daughter's android - did the access point switch thing 2 years back & no problems - ST has changed policy & now sells sims for most any gsm phone - good deal since their phone selection has always been poor - I also buy the service cards from their web site, kind of - ST always has an online promotion or two - I buy $45 cards with whatever free phone goes with it & then sell or trade the freebie - There is no Wal Mart in my zip so the sales tax is much lower & the 3 day Fed X S&H is free - but it is sent signature req so someone needs be home - It's not much, the 4-500 I make selling the free phones over a years time pays for a months dorm fee - TTL she's now in her senior year - - - For a little over 3 years I've done the same thing with a ST Nokia tethered to a PC for my homes internet service - I live in the sticks - Usage is kept below 5 gig per most opinions/guidance given at howardforums.com & so far same good results - reasonable rual Inet service for about $25/month after I sell that free phone & no contract - My home phone service is verizon homeservice - a wireless black box plugged into my home - 19.95plus tax for unlim LongD, call wait, callr ID & some other features - It sits in my garage & runs all 9 of my home phones - it has a 5 REN if I remenber right - (the ring eqiv number is the device power rating-used to be approx .75 per unit needed for the green acres type phones & ob much lower now) - Also have a GE brand bluetooth gateway with a 3 REN rating connected in the hopes my wife would agree to ditching our home service - It grabs 1 or 2 cell phones & auto trans calls to the house phones when you walk in the door-works great - Her cell is an employer perk & I haven't figured a way to chisel there - YET! When I can't take the tethered nokia with me I rely on an AT&T go phone - 10 cents min & no monthly min or contract - just stays in my MJ - - - Hope this helps someone - Anyone know of better deals please pass them along -
