STERLING STINGER Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 recently ive noticed that my truck is sounding like a diesel.... i tried diffrent gas, it seemed to work a little, but only for a day or two. starts after 2nd turn of key sometimes stalls out while idling still idles high and low ....seems like when its wet out it does it more??? had timing checked, it was good.... they said it was reading a little below 0 whatever that means 92 mj 4.0 any help would be appreciated! Thanks guys Paul
Eagle Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Worse when wet out? Check your plug wires. As they get old, internal resistance increases while the insulation may break down. Get the plug wires wet (or even damp, such as condensation on cold wires on a cool, damp evening) and if you pop the hood with the engine running you may see a light shopw you'll never forget.
HOrnbrod Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Did you check/change the O2 sensor and do all the other checks we mentioned in your "stalling out" thread?
88 Beast Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Check the coil too. I fought a miss and stall at low idle longer than I'd like to admit. Mine got worse after a rain or car wash. Turned out the coil was arcing to the metal case around it.
johnjeep Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Check the spark plugs too!! Mine did that about a year ago and it just needed new plugs. Something so small makes a huge difference!!
STERLING STINGER Posted April 12, 2012 Author Posted April 12, 2012 Did you check/change the O2 sensor and do all the other checks we mentioned in your "stalling out" thread? Yes. the oxygen sensor is good as well as all the wires. not sure what a throttle body sensor is though. I just changed my plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. still sounds diesel-ish it sounds like its coming from the bottom so I'm gonna check the exhaust maybe theres a little hole somewhere or something
STERLING STINGER Posted April 13, 2012 Author Posted April 13, 2012 Still sounds crappy but a little better :fs1:
87Chief Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Check/tighten all your intake/exhaust manifold bolts.
STERLING STINGER Posted April 18, 2012 Author Posted April 18, 2012 Ok thanks ill do it tomorrow. Can anyone tell me the tps location? Thanks Paul
itsjust me Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 mine did that when i got it. everything was gumed up and full of carbine. the ports in my valve cover where completely plugged. something to think about.
