speedo issue...what to do?

Recommended Posts

Finally installing the new AX15 an NP 231 behind the original renix 4 liter. Presently have the renix cable speedo to the peugot tranny. (truck was originally RWD).

Pardon the ignorant question....how do I connect the speedo. do I have to change the wiring harness to get around the manual cable speedo?

I Will upgrade later to a stroker and upgrade harness to 90'+ HO set up....but trying to do this in stages. do I resort to using a GPS for a speedo in the interim?

What are my options for the time being?

Oh wizards of jeepdom enlighten me.

I do believe you'll need a 4wd cable (I think the 2wd one is too short)

make sure you get the right gear/shaft for inside. there are some difference over the years. and the gears change depending on the tire size. but the gears pull right off the shafts so you can mix/match to get it right.

I had a problem............and I think someone else here did too and I followed their lead..........ordered one (cable) for a XJ without cruise.

thanks for the help was way easier than I thought....

I was already running a cable from a renix 4X4 XJ .....it was all I could find at the junkyard at the time.

So after I got rid of the electrical connect and changed over to the manual set up... yada yada it was a snap.

(will see if I need a different gear once I am on the road again and can check it with a GPS) appreciate the help.

Or you can use this table to tell you the closest speedo gear according to your setup:
