Pete M
what are you using in the rear? if I remember right, scout fronts have 0 degree caster.
shawn
i have been saving an 8.25 that i was gonna re-gear and was planning on going with a 30 for the front. just happened to come across this today while looking for some scrap at the recycle center. they sell scrap metal for 25 cents a pound and that would include dana 44s. i do realize this is a different bolt pattern, but how would camber come into play? Pete M
caster. it means that the truck will be more likely to wander down the road rather than have a firmer return-to-center feel. our trucks have around 5* of caster. I'm sure there's a way around it, I'm just not too up on the scout axles. the caster thing stuck in my head years ago because I couldn't figure out why they would do such a weird thing. :dunno: I wonder if those have big ujoints or small ones. :hmm: my fav junkyard swap is the grand waggy front and an Isuzu rodeo rear (mostly because the Isuzu comes with great gear ratios and so then I'd only need to regear one axle)
FrankTheDog
Scout is also passenger side drop while the MJ is drivers side drop. It a couple inches narrower also. 5.5x5 lug pattern. Low pinion. Your better off with a later model D30 out of an XJ with the correct gearing. They're not to hard to find.
Sir Sam
pass, I see those things all over craigslist all the time and no one can seem to get rid of them.
shawn
thank you for the opinions gentlemen. i think that i will take a pass on this for a few of the reasons listed above. from what i understand a d300 tc is what would be needed and even so, with all the hassel and expense, even if all components were free it will still be better to either wait for the right d30 or just make one slowly over time. i need to re-gear my white truck so have been trying to keep an eye out for "treasures". after all is said and done i will probably wind up with a r and p for the d30 from ebay.
