originalnvmj
I'm looking for feed back on using a frame to steering box brace like the one from M.O.R.E. or Warrior. I have an MJ w/ a 7.5 in lift. I have a JCR Crusader Deluxe bumper and steering box brace. I've read on here that these braces can sometimes lead to frame cracking. is this true? Would there be any added benefit to installing one? I appreciate any feed back, Thanks
Pete M
lead to frame cracking? I thought they were designed to prevent it? :hmm: do you know where the cracks happen? I've seen completely rust-free MJs crack the frame right between the track bar and steering box (where the push/pull is happening). is this the supposed crack point? Or are the braces supposedly cracking the frame on the other side where the brace mounts to the frame?
originalnvmj
I'm not sure where these supposed cracks are happening, no one was specific about that. I had the same understanding as you, that they prevented frame cracking. What's you opininion on using one?
Pete M
I would if I have the money. it'd be best to wait for more hands-on experience to chime in though.
mvusse
Without a steering box brace, my box (locked front axle, 33" tires at the time) cracked the frame right between the two sway bar bolts, caused by the box attempting to (and pretty much succeeding in) pulling one if it's bolts through the frame. IIRC, the crack started just above the front most lower bolt, continued through the bolt hole to the bottom of the frame and along the bottom halfway to the inside before I caught it. I ended up plating my frame inside and out with 3/16 plate from the front back almost to the track bar mount and it's been fine since. The only truck with an aftermarket brace I have first hand experience with is the parts XJ. It doesn't have any cracks in the front part of the frame, but I also have no clue how long it's been on there.. Might have just been installed recently. 89eliminator
are you talking about the brace that goes from one frame rail to another? those don't do much in my opinion, and i have first hand experience with these.

The type that goes from the pass. side frame rail to the steering box just above the pitman arm.
89eliminator
yeah that is what i have. i put that on before i reinforced the steering box mounts and it felt no different than it did before. i guess it "helps" but i wouldnt buy another one.
