dfreeman616 Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 So today I went down and took 3 ASE tests and passed them all (Engine Repair, Engine Performance, and Auto Electrical). I've already been master certified through the state of Michigan for over 2 years, so now I'm plugging away at the ASE's. What's more, in a week and a half I'm starting a job at a different shop. I'll be working 5 days instead of 6, have benefits, and make roughly 25-30% more. Altogether, I'd say there's some good changes coming for my family and me. The 5 day thing is big, since we have 2 boys, one who's 3 and one who's 7 months. Not only that, but I might actually get some time to work on my Jeeps again :wrench:
dasbulliwagen Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 When I was living in Michigan, I never understood why the state had a hand in licensing of mechanics. I went and got my autobody license at the time but still thought it was a money scam for the state. Anyways, congrats, and I too have three more ASE's to take to get master certified with Mazda. Good luck.
dfreeman616 Posted March 8, 2012 Author Posted March 8, 2012 So halfway through my first week, and I've almost made as much as a typical week at my old job. I'm on track to almost double my income. Think this was a good idea? Of course, I know my hours will go up and down, but as long as there's the work, I can push it out.
Pete M Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 doubling your income is generally a good thing
dfreeman616 Posted March 9, 2012 Author Posted March 9, 2012 timing on the income change couldn't be better, too. my wire is looking to go back to school to get certified to be a teacher, so we're going to need every penny!
