koooooooz Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 guys there is a thing leeking oil on my mj lol like all of them lol but there is a peice comming off my block that turns up where you screw on the oil filter is leeking oil and i replace the o rings and well i just want to no if anyone has this prob and when they do to fix it or just to cope wit it
Pete M Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 If you're talking about the oil filter mount, there are some O-rings that seal the mount to the block. I haven't done it yet (someday I'll get around to it), but I think it's just a matter of undoing a bolt and replacing the O-rings inside.
87manche Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 http://madxj.com/MADXJ/technical/techni ... ersion.htm that's about adapting a newer style to the older block, so it doesn't really apply, but a lot of good information about removing it and reinstalling it. Hell, might as well upgrade it while you're in there.
koooooooz Posted January 18, 2007 Author Posted January 18, 2007 i did replace the o rings that that is the weird thing i went to the dealer and well there are 3 o rings and well i replaced them and it is still leaking lol i have no clue why they are not sealing right they seemed a little smalll but that is what the dealer gave me i might have to do that conversion if i can't figure it out now ps where can i buy that conversion and how much is it
87manche Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 did you lightly coat the o-rings with oil before you reinstalled them? Did you tighten the bolt to spec with a torque wrench? Did you clean the mating surfaces?
500 MJ Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 I did this on my XJ right before I sold it. I got the three O-rings I needed from Carquest. I just took the deal in there and we found the ones that fit around each one. A total of $1.37 in all and my problems were solved!
