I don't have any pics I can send, but don't :( about an auto trans .

If its the aw4 like the chreokes they are damn near indestructable.

I have a freind with an XJ running 8+ inches of lift D60 4:10 axles w/ lockers and he beats the snot put of it and the trans loves it :D

coooool

but i love manual trans., though

i swore that my first car would be that

but, whatever

a six cylinder Comanche automatic is better than a four cylinder ford escort manual

Don't let MJ Jeff hear you say that. He has both.

my interior the day I bought it. She's since been cleaned up, had a new head unit installed and had my sirius tuner permanently mounted to te dash. I'll snap a photo tomorrow.

BTW, th AW4 is an awesome auto tranny. If you really want manual shifting then go here.

Consider this, it's very similar to the tranny used in supras, and those guys have some ridiculous horsepower and torque flowing through them.

The neon tubes have been replaced by a tap-it light and velcro. I absolutely love the shelf, but hate the felt covering that keeps falling off. The visors are actually stock, but with the outer covering stripped off. What you see is the "skeleton" inside. Also not shown is the rear wall, which is now covered with a 3/4" piece of plywood so I can screw in brackets and what-not for various items like a fire extinguisher, flashlight, etc. I've also removed the glovebox door and use the glovebox as a shelf for the GPS, inverter, 12v outlets, etc. I love functional upgrades! :D

I'm having issues with the materials staying up. The dark red metal gets HOT in the sunshine and the "high-temp" spray-on glue I used first would soften and drop sticky pieces of foam on me. Next I used regular black exterior household silicone and so far it works great. A bit of a pain to use though. I feel it's important to use black, as every white silicone I've ever used stinks to high heaven. Stupid me, I used that spay-glue again for attaching up the carpet, and woulldn't ya know it, it softens and the carpet is sagging in a couple places. Someday I might learn my lesson about that stuff. On the results side, it seem to insulate great. My A/C no longer works, but the truck isn't an oven like it was before. Any insulation is better than none. :D

Actually, the 'scort has a slowly dying AOD tranny...now on some mornings I have to go a few feet in reverse before any of the forward drive gears work :( I'm swapping cylinder heads on it in a couple of weeks, then I'm thinking the next project (before the MJ rebuild) is gonna be a manual tranny swap (courtesy of the junkyard, of course...)

Anyways, welcome to the group Patrick!

auto trannies are bad juju to me...give me a manual anyday. The escort is only the second vehicle I've ever owned that was an auto, and it suck-diddly-ucks.

I can hear the pump spool up in the mornings, when it doesn't go forward....I just have to drop it in R and move a foot or so, then things work o.k. The really bad problem is that it seems to drop into OD waaayy too soon, and there's no way to control it other than pedal position (is there any way to splice the wiring and put a manual toggle on that circuit?). It drops, then lugs the engine, then the ENTIRE driveline starts wobbling uncontrollably (think deathwobble, but in the driveline instead of the suspension). I can either mash the pedal and pull it out of OD, or else drop the shifter into D, and it goes away (till the next time). I might try changing the fluid to see if that helps any, or if it kills it then so be it.

But the darn thing gets like 40+ MPG.....I can't think of getting rid of it just now 8) I'm thinking a 5 spd to replace the auto, and that thing oughta be pretty fun to drive.

I'd say that somethings wrong with your tranny then. i never had a problem with it dropping into OD too soon. I'd say that it dropped into OD at about 45, then locked the converter shortly afterward, maybe 50, and if you weren't hard on the pedal. It certainly wasn't a peppy car though, definitly downshifting to go up a hill, and if the A/C was on then you had better turn it off before attempting to pass. Overall it was a great little car. I beat on it for a lot of miles, and it never left me stranded or didn't start on a cold morning.
