Caliber history..could its sisters be far behind?

The Patriot/Compass are nearly idenitcal to the Caliber on which they are based and the Caliper is discontinued as of Novemebr. Can the econo jeeps be far behind??

Well.. considering they are redoing the plant they are all made in... I'm gonna guess so...

 

But the plant being retooled was announced almost a year ago.... why is it news now????

Yes this is old news, its just now coming up that the end of its production is near. I can't say that they have been bad cars, but they really werent a good replacement for the neon. That, and the stupid CVT transmissions they put in them are horrible. Makes me really hate to have to drive one. The end of the Caliber platform is also the end of the CVT trans, and with the new small cars comes a new dual dry clutch trans that is much more efficient.

The biggest mistake with the caliber, IMHO, is that Daimler Chrysler designed it to look like a small SUV just as the gas prices started to climb. The Neon was their entry-level small car and they tried to go a little up-market with its replacement. Even if it was a perception and not reality I think that drove buyers to smaller looking vehicles whether they were truly that much smaller at all.

I foresee somebody building a patriot with a V6, 5speed, real Tcase and solid axles! Ok, maybe that is just what I want to do to one of those things. :D
