Shackle Bushing

How does the bushing come out of the shackle?? It looks like it's crimped in there or some thing. Ive already tried using two sockets and a hammer and/or vise.(like a u-joint)

if its like the control arm bushings it takes a 20000 ton press.

I've read that heating it with a torch or even burning it out are common methods. Just be sure you are outdoors if you decide to burn out the bushing. If you are able to place the shackle in a vice, you can pound out the bolt sleeve with a same size socket and then the bushing should come right out (maybe). Good luck!

:huh???: I've always used a hammer and a block of wood! What are you pushing em out the wrong side?

Oh! You are talking about re-using the sleeve! Why? You can knock the whole sleeve out of the control arm, then get new bushings, sleeves and all! (If you are upgrading to urethane bushings, in stock control arms, I gotta ask, "Why?") You can get 4 oe style LCA bushings, in sleeves, for $50-$60!

on a side note: the bushing they sell ,the center is a flat piece of metal bent into a round shape. this is true of all the ones i've seen. i would like in the future to have round stock as the inter part. so if anyone knows who makes one , please post where to buy, or what to buy.

 

fitting a round bolt into a oval hoe isn't my idea of smart.

I rented a bushing press from Adanvce Auto used a 1/2 drive and a breaker bar, had them out in about 45 min
