jimoshel
In the good old days, don't get me started, you could start and hear a engine run sitting on the ground. Hook a battery up, dribble a little gas down the carb and you had a running engine. I don't see how that can be done with a puter controlled system. Thats why I'm asking, is there any way it can be done? Now I don't pull a motor until the buyer has heard it run, leaves a deposit and then I pull it. Or he pulls it. :dunno:
87Warrior
It should be possible with the engine harness hooked up to all of the sensors and pcm with a make shift fuel pump. Afterall, Hesco sells a stand alone 4.0 engine harness. You could always video tape the motor running in the vehicle.
mnkyboy
I've made stand alone harnesses for transplants that you could do that with,I don't think it would be worth it though. The easy way would be if possible to find an on old points style dist that fits the engine then use a spray bottle of gas to keep it running or get a LPG mixer for a dual fuel set up and fit it over the TB (some slip on like an aftermarket air filter, and use a hose clamp) Then all you need is an old bell housing to mount a starter
Sir Sam
Best solution is to get a video camera(or in my case a digital video camera so you can share the video easily electronically) and record the video of the engine running, do a walk around of the vehicle, and then show the gauge cluster, that way the buyer can hear/see it, see what vehicle it is in, and see the mileage, all in one continuous shot that they can see on youtube. Yep - good solution. This is how I was able to sell the 4.0L in my '99XJ so quickly at my full asking price. In my high school auto tech class my first project was to pull a 3.8L V6 GM motor out of a wrecked, late 90's Grand Prix that was donated to the school, build a stand for it, and get it to run on the stand. It took a couple days to pull the engine, but then it took a few weeks yanking out the wiring harnesses and getting everything organized and in place. The thing ran great until a few years later when some knucklehead was running it and forgot to turn the water supply on and blew the head gaskets.
