mvusse
I just checked that seller he has one here's the link It says for 87 though is the tank different in 86?? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-FUEL ... 1387wt_941 That's a short bed tank. Your's being an 86 would be a long bed. Long bed tank for 86 and newer is the same, but depending on engine, the sending unit is not. The 86 2.8 V6 has a mechanical pump, while the 2.5 and 4.0 have an electric pump mounted to the sending unit inside the tank.

mvusse
so any long wheelbase tank will work ? I am keeping my sending unit I am just trying to find a good deal on one. and straps As far as I know there was no change to the long wheelbase gas tanks over the years, so any year should fit. Two things of note: 1 - there are two sizes: 23 gallons (needs three straps) and 16 gallons (needs two straps) 2 - OEM tanks have a sort of pan in the bottom of the tank. It serves a purpose, but is also why (XJ) Cherokee units do not fit in our tanks (the arm interferes with the side of the pan). Some aftermarket tanks do not have this pan, in which case an XJ sending unit may work if you do ever end up needing a new one.
veritas4156
bought an ebay tank for something stupid cheap, i think under $100 with free shipping. Got the 23 gallon tank, installed it, no leaks, comes with a lock ring and o ring, and its holding up well after a ny winter with no rust on it.
