HOrnbrod Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Found one locally. From an 89 MJ, 3.55 gears, 150K miles, stamped numbers match the specifications. The guy wants $225 and will throw in a new Trac-Lok carrier that I will need when (if) I change gears to 4.10. Sound reasonable?

Sound reasonable? good deal reguardless....but make sure that spare carrier is for 4.10's. unless he bought it, it's probably not.

Don, A Dana 44 for a Comanche out here with good brakes can fetch $300 or more, I think it is a good deal for you. If my MJ didn't come with the Dana 44 (when you start hitting $300-$400 range) I would just get the 8.8. I don't want to start a 44 VS 8.8 war, but my 44 has required some investment. I have had chronic axle seal leaks, until I bought the Alloy Usa Chromoly axle kit. I am not knocking the 44 just letting folks know my experience. You recently sold NOS Comanche tail lights for over $500, why don't you look at it as buying one NOS tail light. ;)

Kind of slow around here tonight. I've seen them go anywhere from $150-$650. Has 150K on it too, so the Trak-Lok is probably toast, but since the carrier goes with it, who cares?
Automan2164 Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 I aughta slap you for even second guessing this Don. You almost bought a whole truck, just for the axle, and now you find the axle, sans truck, with extra parts and you want to nit-pick it? Should already be at your house with it. Rob L. :fs1:
Sir Sam Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Pretty good price. I sold my last one for $300 for 3.55 w/LSD complete. Glad to get it, I had that thing for sale on craigslist forever.
HOrnbrod Posted January 6, 2011 Author Posted January 6, 2011 Got 'er home. Now the fun begins. No drums though; disks are going on this baby. And dayem, these things are heavy. :ack: Image Not Found

If you're disk-ing it Don, hang onto those drum parts, especially the backing plates. Them sunsabeotches ain't cheap......you might could help out a fellow Jeeper with them. Jeff
HOrnbrod Posted January 6, 2011 Author Posted January 6, 2011 Breaking out the fine linens for this occasion I see. Rob L. 8) Yep. Fine linen ex-doggy blankets. :D If you're disk-ing it Don, hang onto those drum parts, especially the backing plates. Sir Sam Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Dana 44 heavy? Compared to the 8.8 or 8.25 it sure isn't. The small axle tubes of the 44 make it much lighter than the 8.8 or 8.25.
HOrnbrod Posted January 6, 2011 Author Posted January 6, 2011 Guess I'm not as much as a She-........err........He-man as you are Sam. Damn sure heavier than the D35 though.
