jimoshel
If a fella was wanting a 2.5 motor with a AX15 tranny what makes, models and year would he be looking for?
mnkyboy
Don't know exactly but from what I've read 98ish Dakota. Or you could put out the cash and just buy the adapter to hook the 2.5L to the AX15
Geonovast
The only factory option is a late 90s Dakota with a 4 popper and 5 speed. These are extremely rare. What are you doing with a 2.5 that you'd need an AX-15?
jimoshel
It was mostly curiosity. I find it hard to believe that they would only make this combination for one vehicle, the 90's Dakota considering the way Detroit likes to maximize the use and minimize the cost. Anyway I like the 2.5 engines and feel the AX15 is the best tranny considering cost, availability and durability.
Geonovast
Unless you're really beating the piss out of it, the AX-4/5 should be fine.
jimoshel
Unless you're really beating the piss out of it, the AX-4/5 should be fine. It's a Jeep. That's what they're for. If I wanted to baby it I'd get a Ford. :peek:
Geonovast
I don't mean standard I-own-a-Jeep-so-I-can beating the piss out of it. I mean beating the piss out of it. Like locked on D60s with 44s beating the piss out of it. Now, if you're bored and want something to do, so you decided to put an AX-15 behind the 2.5, then go nuts. I just can't see it being cost effective.
jimoshel
I know what your saying. Half of what I do is just out of curiosity just to see if it will work, or if I can make it work. Putting a Corvair engine in a homebuilt airplane for example. Another half of what i do is out of necessity, cutting firewood so I don't freeze my patooty off. And another half of what I do is for the fun of it and to make a buck. HAPPY NEW YEAR everybody.
Pete M
I believe you don't need the whole AX-15 from the dakota, just the bellhousing and the guts.
