86ComancheXNate
Why did Jeep invest in such a failure of an engine?
jimoshel
Can't have been to big of a failure. I've seen over a dozen S10'S with the 2.8 and over 150K on the odometer. I've only had one jeep with the 2.8. A '86 with 198K on the clock. I think the Jeeps were a little heavier than then the GM cars and trucks and not as torquey as the 2,5. Properly maintained they were reliable motors.
Pete M
they didn't invest much, that's for sure. :rotfl2: they were mostly a stop-gap until the 4.0 showed up. they carry a similar failure mode as the dana 35 and peugeot transmission. abuse or neglect them, and they will surely blow up sooner rather than later. take good care of them, and they might just blow up on you anyway.
86ComancheXNate
Well I can't stand mine. But I have heard of one that was a beast. I friend of a friend of mine has one in his 80's Blazer and it flies. My friend said it was something about adjusting the timing just right or something. I'm not sure if I buy it. mnkyboy
Some people do build them and they can be quite peppy,I saw a twin turbo GM 2.8 somebody stuck in a Datsun 510 that was pretty nasty. Also the later mpfi 2.8Ls are a huge improvement over the carbed engine in the MJ/XJ. A 2.8l 5spd equipped comaro/firebird could hold its own with the 305 carb&tbi cars of the time .
