The hills behind with evergreens suggests to me near the Cascades or toward the coast near the coastal range at least. Grew up in Coos Bay myself! Back years ago (1960's) being also the time, back then at least, when the warmer ocean current started being closer to shore that we could do some surfing without freezing our buns off in the cold Alaskan current close to shore!
