87 comanche
I have an 87 4.0 4wd and the motor mounts are shot. Driver side went in real easy passenger side not so. Will removing the oil filter give me enough room to get the bolt out? Doesn't look like it. Did't try no oil filter wrench.

The passenger is the easy side too ;)
kastein
I did the driver side in about 30 minutes, easy way is to pull the air filter housing out... a 13mm (or is it 1/2"? I think it's 13mm since it's bodywork) socket and some extensions and suddenly you have plenty of room to work. Took one look at the passenger side and decided I could leave it for another day, since it was just stopgap till I do the trans swap anyways. Heck, I couldn't even find the new set of mounts I got so I ended up using a used one off my spare engine :fool:
87 comanche
Passenger side done. It was easy once I removed the oil filter and unbolted the oil filter threads. Needed to replace those gaskets anyway. The bolt for the motor mount pulled out towards the filter once I removed it I could see it would hit the filter mount. Oh well behind me now. mrkrgr
My son and I cheated. We backed the nut off on the passenger side and cut the head off with a sawzall. Installed a shorter bolt bought at Fastenal with the head of the bolt forward. It was very fast.
87 comanche
The thought had crossed my mind to cut the bolt.
