Kirkland Jeff Posted August 7, 2010 Share Posted August 7, 2010 I recently drove my 91 Comanche into a boulder at 15 mph and smashed up the left front side. The trailing arm is bent and the engine won't start. (the impact probably took out the engine computer). Needs a hood, left front fender, bumper etc. The truck is completely stock except for a limited slip rear end . It has a straight six and 5- speed. 225,000 miles on the clock but was still running great, original owner. Not used offroad, just some logging road but mostly highway travel. My question is, is this thing worth fixing or will the repairs be more trouble than it is worth? I can buy a similar truck for under 4 grand with way fewer miles. I just need help deciding if I should part it out, try to fix it or have it hauled away for charity. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
jimoshel Posted August 7, 2010 Share Posted August 7, 2010 Fix it. Get a XJ donor and swap parts. It takes more than a whack to knock out a ECU, although a voltage spike will do it. I would look for a cut wire or broken sensor first. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
kastein Posted August 7, 2010 Share Posted August 7, 2010 You can probably fix that yourself with junkyard parts for 3-400 dollars or less - especially if you are patient enough to wait for body parts of the right color. Where are you located? I'm sure some on here would give you a bit of cash for it if you decide to junk it, if I had the space right now and you were within range I would pick it up, fix it, and probably sell it for whatever it ended up costing me. shark Posted August 7, 2010 Share Posted August 7, 2010 Ive repaired XJ's with more damage than that. If you're going to be doing the work yourself it is definitely worth fixing. Buy a cheap XJ to use as a daily driver so you can take your time and build your MJ right. Build the Jeep you always wanted it to be. That's what i would do, anyway. Cost me $2200 and it runs great. I'll drive it while I decide if I can get the '91 running again.
