Eagle
No. The spacing of the spring perches (the distance between them) is different for the XJ than for the MJ. Even if you want to go to a spring-over in the MJ you still have to remove the XJ perches and re-weld them in the correct locations.

Overall WMS, bolt pattern, and DS length/yoke are all the same though.
Geonovast
Are you sure it's a turdy-five? I know it was an option up to 01, but personally, I have never seen a D35 on a 97+ XJ, and even the 93-96 ones usually have an 8.25.
kastein
Are you sure it's a turdy-five? I know it was an option up to 01, but personally, I have never seen a D35 on a 97+ XJ, and even the 93-96 ones usually have an 8.25. All ABS equipped XJs came with 35s. Other than that, most of em were 8.25s (at least around here) and it seems like they used 35s when they ran out of 8.25s. Question's already been answered - basically, IMO if you are going to have to weld perches anyways you may as well get a 96.5-up (gotta pull the cover and check splines on 96s, 97s were all 29) 29 spline 8.25" or a Ford 8.8" since most rearends cost the same amount at the junkyard. kro10000
:agree: Plus IMO the later (post 90) D35s are worse than the 87-89 D35s, with smaller minivan drums and C clip axles
shark
i wouldnt waste my time with a d35 since you have to weld new perches on anyway. go to an 8.25 or an 8.8. my 2 cents.
