jeepmj_tj Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 I picked up an amc 20 with 1piece shafts 5x4.5 bolt pattern (believe it was an original mj rear end) does anyone know what size drums came on them, mine has 2.5" wide shoes with 11" drums I believe.( i am currently running this rear end now) I am putting in a front waggy d44 six lug in. and want the back to match. I believe the amc 20 rears from the waggys are the same width, however the brake shoes are only 2 inch wide and am unsure about the drum diameter. Can i use the waggy rear amc shafts in my rear end? what would i do about the brakes? thanks joe m.
DirtyComanche Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 I didn't think you could get a model 20 rear in a MJ. I thought the only options were D35 and D44. Similar to the cherokee, but the chrysler 8.25 was not avaliable. Anybody able to tell me otherwise? Oh, and I can't help you.

The waggy axles are wider than a MJ's, but only by a couple of inches. IIRC, its 59" for an MJ/XJ axle and 62" for a wagon axle. Sorry, I can't be more accurate, all my tech notes and such are packed, up to move into our 'office'
Bounty Hunter Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Use a rear D44 from an early '90s Isuzu Amigo, it's disc brakes and same 6-lug wheel pattern as the Waggy front.
jeepmj_tj Posted August 4, 2005 Author Posted August 4, 2005 the amc 20 rear, i have already has 4.56 gears and a detriot.
