vr666dub
To start off vehicle is a 1986 MJ 2.5l Renix fuel system. So yesterday i drove my MJ all over Las vegas and it was running like a champ. Parked it and looked back thinking "can't wait to drive you tommorow again" Next day go to start it, hard to start..... then start but sputtering really bad. Figured it was cause it was cold. Let it idle for a while but still the same. Truck is brand new to me so i figured maybe the fuel gauge didnt work and i hadnt filled it yet. So decided to get gas and throw some fuel injector cleaner. Still the same. Drove it to my friends (barely made it). Would depress the pedal but it would just bogg down. Took the plugs out, smelled like gas and had carbon. Changed plugs, cap, rotor, wires. Still the same. Let it idle for about 3mins, took plugs out and again carbon and fuel??????????????? Thinking its a clogged open fuel injector??????? don't wanna just go buy one cause there expensive and I'm just guessing but I'm at a lost. I just wanna drive the damn thing please help. Also need to find a timing light to check it. even though i don't think that would flood the engine that much... or would it? just weird it all happened over night. Last thing, does someone have a pic that you can see clearly the distibutor position in reference to the engine because according to my chiltons picture my distributor is rotated bout a quarter turn but thats how its been since i bought the truck 3 weeks ago and i hadnt had any issues till now. Thanks all and sorry for the long winded topic. jimoshel
The CPS is the culprit about half the time in cases like this. First unplug and replug the the CPS connector a couple times. This will clean the contacts. Then get a can of brake cleaner and spray the CPS and flywheel real good. Rotate the engine while spraying. This will get all the flywheel. 1987Comanche
If you end up needing 2.5 TBI parts I have the complete throttle body minus the Idle Speed Controller.

vr666dub
so pulled out the CPS and it was filthy, so i cleaned it w/brake clean and the flywheel also. I still have the same problem :grrrr: i decided to check out the fuel filter and as soon as i unplugged it, this nasty brown supposed to be gas came out of the inlet side. Some on the other side, but don't know if it was late or too dark but it didnt seem like it was as much as the inlet...... so i decided to drop the tank and wash it out. The pump didnt look all that bad but it wasnt like it was new... uh lets try manufacture date of 3/31/85. All i gotta say is WOW!!!! Like i said before don't wanna put money in unless i need it so ill put it all back together and check the pressure. Would something like a plugged filter, bad/dirty gas, old pump make the truck seem like its running rich/off time? Plugs have carbon on them in matter of mins if not seconds. I'm so confused and tired of not being able to figure this thing out. :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help:
