I have 2 transfer Cases One says 242 and the other 231 both say 272 ratio. My question is, is one better than the other? Are these interchangeable?

The reason i ask, my peugeot to a puck so i pulled it and the t-case, i have this extra t-case that came with my new ba/10. I was running the 242 before and had no problems with it. So i was planning on just sticking with it, unless someone tells me different.

You could use both of them. :waving:

Depend of your choice, If you plan to make some wheeling, the fact is the T-231 is stronger because less moving parts.

:smart:

T-231 is for Part-Time 4WD

T-242 is for Full Time 4WD

I'm actually planning on selling it once i piece it back together and put that money toward my other MJ that's basically rust free. So maybe i should keep the 231 for myself and put the 242 back in my rusty MJ.

What do you mean by Part Time and Full Time?

The 231 is a 21 and i haven't separated the 242 and the BA/10 to count yet, unless there is a different way?

One came out a 89 MJ and the other a 89 XJ I was assuming they were both 21 but like i said i have checked both yet.

you've got a 242 mated already mated to a manual trans? interesting. well, the good news is that it should be 21 spline since the peugeot is.

I'd keep the 242. all-wheel-drive means you can use it on dry pavement without breaking anything. :D the 242 also has a part-time setting, so it's got every choice possible.

part-time: loose surfaces only

full-time: any surface
