Dave Stark
I found this beauty on CL the other day & it could easily make tops in the ridiculous CL ad thread. My questions are: This can have either the GM V6 or the 4Cyl right? Also, they say it has a 5 speed transmission AX5 or Ba10-5, or could it be either? Mine is a '91 so i never really got all that into the older configurations... 1986 jeep 4x4 for sale - $1200 (fort worth texas 76105) 1986 jeep commando 4x4, 5speed manual transmission, strong body but needs timing chain. transmission in good condition.ask for dorothy.please note that i don't accept blocked I.D. calls.817 536 2126 if no answer, leave message
Lenard
Yes it would be either the 2.5 4 cylinder (good engine, I loved mine), or the GM's 2.hate. if it is a 5 speed, it would be a AX-5, the BA 10/5 didn't come out till 87, and are only on the 4.0L. Sir Sam
Why is this a ridiculous Craigslist ad? Edit: Also;
Dave Stark
 ?? I thought it was a little ridiculous because of the name change from "Comanche" to "Commando" but maybe it's just me... I it doesn't have the GM i may go for it.
Dave Stark
So i called on the ad, here's how the conversation goes: Her: Hello? Me: Hi, my name is Dave & i was calling about your Craigslist ad for the Jeep truck. Her: My what? Me: :huh???: Your Jeep truck? Her: Oh the Jeep, it's a good truck. Me: Great, do you know what engine it has? Her: It's a five speed. Me:  Okay, but do you know what engine it has. Long pause. Her: I think it has the standard one they came with back then. Me: Does it run? Her: (Very confused) Well, no. The battery for it is in the trunk of my car. Me: Could i come look at it? Long pause. Her: You can come look at it. Me: When are you available? Long pause. Her: I'm available anytime. Me: Could i come today? Long pause. Her: Okay. Me: Where is the truck located? Her: It's not at my house, do you know where the Ace Hardware is off Vine? Me: No. Her: Well, you can meet me at my house, & i'll take you over there. Me: Okay, I'll have to get with you on this one. :dunce: I think i 'm going to pass. mnkyboy
alot of these type of deals play out very well, i would go look at it. my trucks ad said "84 jeep pickup fourbyfour runs $400" it had no pics, i called the owner and they knew very little about it. i got curious and went to looked at it and drove home in a decent looking 89 shortbox 4X4 sitting on 31" tires  the best deals come from the people who don't know what they have. MJ300
I hate to break the news, but............I'm 99% sure it has the GM 2.hate in it. Take a close look at the tailgate in the pictures. See the emblem in lower left hand corner? I'm pretty sure that's the "V6 2.8L" emblem. :( I'd still go take a gander at it though, if it don't run just find a 3.4 L from a camaro.....direct bolt in and a lot better of an engine. As long as it doesn't have much rust and a decent body, go for it.
Automan2164
Yep, looks like the 2.8L Emblem. Rob L. :ack:
