Recommended Posts

Ive seen 3 row opoen system rad for cherokees on ebay for 200$ ( means I have to convert from close to open system)

Ive also called places around my place to get a new rad

this is what I found :

I can get a 1 row for 150$ all alluminum and

a 2 row for 200$ metal and plastic

what is the best way to go?

I mean if i don't change all the hoses and parts can I still convert the system to open for real cheap

can I reuse the same parts except the t-stat receiver ??

your toughts on this please

ps Ive read the DIY about the change from close and open but I don't have that kind of money

RadiatorBarn.com...put in the year, model, etc. Don't get it off of e-bay, don't get an aluminum/plastic radiator. If you have a closed system and want to keep it that way, just order a radiator for a closed system.

If you WANT to convert to open you can get a new all metal, 3 row radiator at RadiatorBarn.com for $165. Hoses (all hoses) will cost you about $75-90 if you go with good quality, but not over the top hoses. A new (different) heater control valve will cost you about $25.

A little engineering and an afternoon, you're good to go. You don't need any kind of different t-stat.

You may want to wire your e-fan to a switch.

More info??

What's wrong with the ebay radiators? Granted the one I got for $63 shipped was plastic/aluminum and single core, but it was better quality than the 22 yr old OEM plastic/aluminum single core. Plus, it still had the Renix temp sensor bung in the side. Have had mine for almost a year with no issues and my temp needle never reaches 1/2 mark.

OK, I should have qualified that with an IMHO.

I just personally would have a radiator made of metal, seems to be a concensus on all the Jeep forums AND it just makes sense that aluminum core crimped on to ...plastic...just isn't as strong. If you're getting good results then great!

And I'll 2X's that statement

As I replace my radiator in the E350 this weekend...........only 2nd time in the past 4 years I need to do that again

Hey.......they sold me a *life time warranty* Plastic/aluminum radiator, so it just my time for the free replacement :fs1:

And Yes, it leaks right at the top seam of the plastic/aluminum
